Stuart Sunday

Plans originally were to fish Biscayne for bonefish on Sunday, but after hearing the reports of the Spring Break boat brigade creating 3 foot chop on the Bay, and the winds still blowing a little, we changed it up and headed North.  Weather was perfect up in Stuart, light winds and clear skies.  We spent most of the morning on foot, chasing tailing redfish on fly.  Had a couple good follows, but never came tight on any.  As the tide bottomed out we dredged the finger channel for anything willing to bite.  Caught a dinner sized pompano on a bright pink clouser, and a few bluefish and a giant ladyfish.  As the tide began to come in, we went back out on foot and I threw a fly to a giant laid up Sea Trout.  The trout kicked its tail and was on the fly when out of nowhere a big bluefish bulldozed in and stole it from my prize.  I was pissed, but the trout was even more enraged.  It literally attacked the bluefish, trying verociously to rip the fly out of its mouth, I wish it had!  As the water filled in, we poled some of the deeper troughs in the flat, and took some shots at snook in the potholes.  A couple decent chances, no hookups.  As the river started to resemble Biscayne with the amount of traffic, we decided to head home.  Good day out there, and got some good info from Capt. Mike who fished along side of us most of the day.
